♡ Picnic Party Style ♡

Audrey Hepburn Spring Style
Spring is in the air, well kind of! It did snow a little but today but that hasn't stopped me dreaming of warm summer days and picnics in the park. Which got me thinking, picnic party fashion. I'm inspired by 50's summer style, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Bettie Page...you see where I'm going with this. I always look to the styles of the past to inspire my present style and 50's summer style is some of my favourite. I've chosen some key pieces to inspire you to create your own picnic party style so I thought I share some of my favourites with you!

Lemon Cardigan
from Doll Me Up Inc
This super cute cardigan caught my eye as I love this shade of yellow, it's so fresh and screams of summertime. This would look amazing with a skirt or capri's for a sweet retro look. Check out the darling collar too, you can find this at Doll Me Up Inc now! They have lots of cropped cardigans which I really love too. Ideal for summer if you like to cover up a bit more or for work or to slip on with your favourite dress!

Gingham Dress
by Warehouse
I don't normally shop at Warehouse as they tend have quite contemporary clothing and I prefer more vintage inspired styles but I was pleasantly surprised to find this gorgeous gingham number; isn't it just darling. The ideal picnic party style! I adore the off the shoulder detail with the little straps at the top, it adds the right level of detail and the vintage feel to the dress so this is definitely one to look out for Spring/Summer.

Strawberry Bag
from TopVintage
What would any outfit be without a good handbag? This sweet little strawberry clutch is just perfect for any summertime soirĂ©e right? It almost looks good enough to eat! I love fruit inspired accessories at the moment, so of course I instantly fell in love with this clutch. You'll find it at Top Vintage Summer isn't summer without strawberries so it makes perfect sense to have a strawberry handbag! This would go with anything, it's my must have for Spring/Summer accessories.

Circle skirt by
Vivienne of Holloway
My penchant for polkadots hasn't worn off and who better than Vivien of Holloway if you're looking for the perfect fifties inspired circle skirt. I love this red and white full circle skirt, worn with a petticoat or without it so full that it's not essential. You will whoever feel like endlessly twirling around but why not?! That's what spring and summer is all about, dancing and having fun...

Hairflower
by Niccoco Creations
Hair flowers are an absolute accessories must for me, I can never have too many of them. Whatever the season once you pop a flower in your hair you feel instantly fancy and who better than to feature the current hairflower queen, Niccoco Creations. I have been following her creations on social media forever and always lust over her beautiful creations. If you don't know her work you can find her on Esty, Facebook and Instragram. I love this white hairflower, you don't usually see this colour in hairflowers as they usually come in really bold colours but I love the simplicity of this design. I can't wait to stock up!

Strawberry & Jam Brooch
by Erstwilder
For jewellery, Erstwilder always captures my heart! I adore their brooches so much. They are always so sweet, fun and playful. When I was thinking of picnic party, of course, there's jam and scones involved or cakes like good old fashioned Victoria Sponge. I instantly thought of this brooch it couldn't be anymore perfect for afternoon teas or picnics, it's a strawberry and jam!! I just love it so much, it would great paired with the warehouse gingham dress featured above.
Picnic Basket
from Debenhams

If you're gonna have a picnic you better have a basket, so of course I couldn't leave this out! Surprising, there are lots of pretty picnic basket now available. I guess with the rise of retro popularity there is a market to produce these types of baskets or maybe they always been available? Anyway, I digress, I found this pretty little picnic basket from Debenhams. This again wouldn't be a usual place for me to browse through but you can find gems everywhere. I have become a little bit obsessed with getting a picnic basket and this one is really reasonable however cutlery etc...is not included I think with this one so may not be the most practicable but it sure is sweet!

Cherry Earrings
by Abnormal Reality
Not forgetting earrings to complete your picnic accessories, these are the cherry on top! Sorry I had to say it!! The perfect little retro adage to your picnic party look. A great statement piece to add a bit some extra fruit filled jewellery to your look. These cherry earrings instantly caught my eye, for fun spring/summer look; I really love them. Check out Alternate Normality collection on Esty. This lady makes the most wonderful accessories and even stocks shoe-clips which is amazing. I'm such a fan of her cute little designs and she has amazing style too. You can follow her on Instagram, it's where I came across her store and it's really awesome.

Heart flat pumps
by Banned Apparel
Finally for footwear, Banned Apparel have some really great retro inspired style and they are really reasonable too. I'm absolutely in love with these heart flat pumps. These days I like comfort and to be able to walk. Don't get me wrong I still wear heels and they will always have my heart but they are not always practicable for busy days or when you need to get around. I really love walking so I'm really in flats but cute flats! These dainty little heart print pumps fit the bill perfectly. The colour and design matches so many colour and combinations, they're the perfect buy! Caroline Hussey Designs

I recently did a photo-shoot wearing some beautiful pieces designed by my amazing friend and talented designer, Caroline Hussey. It was a really exciting project, a pleasure to model such wonderful work. Contemporary, classic with urban influences is how I would describe Caroline's jewellery but that doesn't do her designs justice by any means. They have to be seen and held in your hand to appreciate her work. The craftsmanship, attention to detail and uniqueness of her designs is second to none.

The pieces I choose to wear for this shoot were (as shown) a divine vivid green brooch and chunky ring as worn throughout. I cannot wait to get my hands on more of her designs. I absolutely adore wearing Caroline's designs, my whole aesthetic changes and I think this shows in this shoot. My love of pin-up and vintage juxtaposed with the ultra modern and contemporary designs works really well together. We have very different styles but when we begin to mix things up it starts to get interesting, which really excites me creatively.

Continually homing her craft and producing new and interesting pieces of wearable art and that is the best way I can summarize her work. She began as painter and is now a jewellery designer, someone with artist vision and excellent eye for design. Each piece is unique and produce by hand which in a world of mass production is something to be celebrated and supported.

To find out more about the designer you can follow Caroline's work, loves and creative endeavors on her awesome blog, Aurochs. If you want to know more about events or details of Caroline's work than get in touch by commenting below or through Facebook and Twitter and I'll send you details!
