Happy Birthday Bettie Mae Page!

Bettie Page is one of my favourite pin-ups for many reasons; she was fearless, provocative and most of all she had style! Her look has inspired millions of fans around the globe, including me! But it was her trademark 'bangs' that have become so iconic and synonymous with Bettie. Many celebrity and pin-ups such as Bernie Dexter, Dita Von Teese, The Cherry Dollface, vintage and rockabilly lovers can be seen wearing 'bettie bangs'. In homage to this wonderful icons birthday, why not cut yourself some 'Bettie bangs' today?! For any of you that want to get that Bettie look but are not sure how to cut your own hair, there are many excellent video's on youtube of how to cut 'Bettie Bangs'. My favourite is  this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bqtio0Nthj0 from Pin-up Lovely 87 it's a really easy step-by-step guide of how to cut your bangs. There are literally loads of other 'Bettie bangs' tutorials on youtube if you click on this link: 'bettie bangs' you'll find loads more but I found the Pin-up Lovely 87 tutorial one of the best, it's of my personal favourite! So give some 'Betty bangs'  in honour of her birthday or if don't fancy that then just enjoy some of my favourite iconic Bettie shots! Happy Birthday Bettie, you're a true icon!

Retro Inspired Stores Feature!

Deadly is the Female opened their boutique and website in late 2008. Their vision was "...to create a stylish space filled with everything feminine, glamorous flirty and fun both on line and in store" Based in Somerset UK, their speciality is 40's and 50's old Hollywood style glamour and this store is all about harnessing your inner glamour vintage goddess; they sale everything one needs to create any vintage inspired look.

From clothes, shoes, accessories, make-up, handbags, even the lingerie! Every element has been thought of by the Deadly is the Female, which makes for a very happy shopping experience indeed!  What makes this store stand out, is the fact that they have models of all sizes, when I read all about the store I was struck by how they stated that "curves should be celebrated and shown off not smothered and regretted " throughout their website you will actually see a curvy women modeling their clothes, no matter what size or shape you are, you can be assured that you will find something to suit your shape. The attention to detail and the awareness of their customer makes this store great.

Stocking some of my favourite retro inspired brands such as Pinup Girl Clothing, Trashy Diva, Deadly Dames, Tatyana and more there's lots of pretty pieces to choose from. I've just shown a very small selection from their website but believe me they have lots more wonderful vintage inspired finds! I love the Geisha dress from Trashy Diva, perfect for a spring/summer picnic or garden party. Capri's are a wardrobe staple for every season. They work so well for any look retro or otherwise. Every women should have these in her wardrobe.

Pair with pumps and leather jacket for a quick and chic rockabilly look or some heels for if you're feeling fancy! That a look I pretty much wear all the time when I want to go really casual as it's not too dressed up but still looks chic with a bit of an edge. It's great have key pieces that you can create lots of different looks from different eras and capri work so well and on all figure and are really flattering especially in black and this pair are perfect!

This cherry print circle skirt caught my eye, super cute print. Pair with a petty coat underneath if you want more "umph" or without for a more casual look either way would look equally fabulous for work, play or a casual day (well that's my idea of casual wear anyway!) I love the cute little red bow that they have styled with this skirt and Deadly is the Female stock lots of sweet accessories. I adore their hair flowers especially the giant red roses which would look ideal with any of the looks shown.

As Deadly is the Female's states it aims "...to be a full experience in glamour and femininity" and as a customer you really do feel completely catered for, so go visit Deadly is the Female now and indulge you inner femme fatale! Visit their store and don't forget to mention how you found it!
